We also learned that smaller animals feed on plants, and they, in turn, serve as meals for larger animals. This is true. However, there is an exception to the food chain flow, as there are animal-eating plants. Let’s see a few.

Tropical Pitcher Plant

The pitcher is about a foot deep in measurement; large enough to trap small animals. This carnivorous plant attracts its prey through the sweet scent emanating from it. It traps a variety of creatures, from insects to animals, like the small lizards, amphibians, and even mammals.

Cobra Lily

The cobra lily is a rare plant that also specializes in trapping animals for food. Like the tropical pitcher plant, it also scents sweetly. It deceives its prey by appearing as though there are different exit points in its pitcher, which are false exits.

Triggerplant

It hasn’t been ascertained if the triggerplant captures animals for food or if it is just a defense mechanism. Some of their species produce structures that are referred to as sticky hairs. These sticky hairs trap its victims, enzymes that are capable of dissolving, and then released to dissolve the trapped creature.

Butterwort

Just like it sounds, the broad leaves of the butterwort look like they were rubbed with butter. Its victims are deceived by the look on the leaves. They probably had mistaken the sticky stuff on its leaf surface to be water. When in contact with it, they realize it has been a trap after all as they become glued to it. The plant then releases its digestive enzymes to digest its trapped prey.
