We have already established that dolphins are extremely intelligent and have close social relationships with each other, but a new exciting discovery has just been made.

Scientists from the Dolphin Alliance Project learned to distinguish the particular whistles that dolphins make and found that they are actually using specific whistles for individuals. It’s like they are giving names to each other! Also, male dolphins were recently seen slapping each other’s flippers in a high five-like movement.

“Each male keeps his own, individual call, and distinguishes himself from his allies, even when they develop an incredibly strong bond,” said Michael Krützen, a professor of anthropology and evolutionary biology at the University of Zurich.

Some hang out with the rest only during mating season. Whatever the reason is, we have different names for different animal groups, and these are some of the strangest ones.

  • A group of bears is sloth or sleuth
  • A group of donkeys is a pace
  • A group of elephants is a parade
  • A group of kangaroos is a troop
  • A group of tigers is an ambush or streak
  • A group of crows is a murder
