A typical bald eagle nest has a diameter of up to 5 feet and is up to 6 feet deep. The biggest nest ever discovered was in Florida in the ’60s, and it had a diameter of 9.6 feet, depth of 20 feet, and weighed 2.2 tons. Another one found in Ohio in 120s weighed around 2 tons and had an 8.5 feet diameter and 12 feet depth.

In order to build such a massive nest, bald eagles need to work on it consistently over a long period of time. They use the same nest for years and constantly add new material to it. The 2-ton Ohio nest was estimated to be around 35 years old when it fell from a tree.
