Bree is a rooster rescued by Camille Licate. He was lost on the streets of New York City when he was a little chicken, but fortunately, he ended up at the rescue where she works.

“I scooped him up and he seemed really content in my hand, and I had him do some office work with me,” Licate shared with The Dodo. “It was hard not to fall in love with him. And I was leaving for the day…So it was like this knee-jerk reaction. It just came out of my mouth. I was like, ‘I’ll take him.’

She brought Bree home to foster him, however, she quickly became his surrogate mother. Her plan to give him to a sanctuary was crossed out when she realized he became a part of her family. But, there was another problem: roosters aren’t allowed to live in NYC. Fortunately, his mom chose him, and the two moved out of the city.

“To be able to provide him a good home and to provide him with love that’s part of my mission,” she added. “He’s enriched my life so much. I think without him wouldn’t be as joyful.”
