We all have that one friend whose asthma flares up whenever he or she is anywhere near cats. You can’t even go near them if you’ve been near a cat or a dog just a few moments before.

But, have you ever heard of a cat with asthma? Apparently, cat asthma is real, and these cat brothers are helping raise awareness for this complication.

Leeno and Poncha are two cats who, despite looking relatively healthy, actually suffer from something that a lot of humans have – asthma. And, just like with humans, these cats need inhalers to treat their rare condition.

Together, along with their owner, Katja Krause, the two are helping raise awareness of the rare condition. This has been met with positive responses so far, with the cats’ Instagram page getting over 22k followers.

The owner is currently trying to raise money through a GoFundMe page to help fund both cats’ ongoing treatment, which can be quite costly given how special their case is. Scroll down below to see just how adorable these cat brothers are and how unfortunate their situation is.

We‘re still inhaling twice a day because of our #felineasthma – our Dad just left for the Everest Basecamp in Nepal and the higher he goes he‘ll experience the lack of air we always feel for the first time himself. He says it’s not only his personal dream to do this trek but also an #asthmaawareness trip and we‘re excited to hear about his experiences when he gets back in 3 weeks. To the humans: please go to the vet as soon as you find your kitties „coughing“ or „trying to vomit a hairball“ regularly because between 5-10% of cats really do suffer from asthma and nobody knows because the diagnostics are not easy and can only be done by exclusion (see our story highlights for the process how it’s done correctly). Every attack scares the cats to death because the lack of air is horrible and they can die from each and every single one of those asthma attacks. Watch your kitties! ❤ ⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣⁣ Have you seen our @gofundme campaign? We‘d never thought we‘d need a thing like this, but we need your help. The link is in our bio. Getting ready for the new week with our usual inhaling through the #aerokat. For our new followers: we need to do this twice a day for our whole lives because we both have #felineasthma. Using an inhaler is the best treatment you can have because cortisone pills or shots would damage the organs and lead to Diabetes or kidney diseases. But with an inhaler it only gets where it should go to: the lungs. And we‘re doing good so far. My X-ray last week was looking very good the vet said! 😺 Happy new week, pawsies! ⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣⁣ Have you seen our @gofundme campaign? As explained in the book Mineral Tolerance of Animals, cats can tolerate more salt in their diet than dogs. But does this mean they can drink seawater without consequences?

It’s generally safe for felines to drink from saltwater pools, which contain around 1/10th of the seawater salt. If they do drink a little bit of water directly from the sea, nothing bad will happen. Much like people, they can tolerate it pretty well.

However, it’s not safe and in no way recommended for cats to drink any bigger amount of seawater. If that happens, an urgent visit to the vet is due. To prevent cats from drinking seawater, a bowl of fresh water should be placed nearby so they are not tempted when thirst strikes.
