]]>The Segers started the farm in 2006 to show that it was possible to manage a profitable farm while treating both the animals and people with dignity and respect. The animals are part of their family and their long term well being is very important.
For twelve years, they’ve been raising exclusively Nubian goats since they consider them the cutest and they love the taste of their milk. They recently welcomed a couple of new breeds of goats, LaManchas (the funny earless goats) and Saanens.
At Blue Heron Farm, all the goats are treated with utmost care. “Our goats are pastured, which means they live on and eat grass. Our land is never treated with chemicals, fungicides, herbicides or pesticides. The girls are given supplemental grain feed on the milk stand,” reads the website.
The goats are very much pampered and the farm even lets them retire after their 10th year of service, allowing them to live out their days freely.
