]]> Tourists wanted to visit Greenland for its natural beauty, remote mountainous landscapes, and Arctic wildlife. We all know that it’s the world’s largest island and expectedly, the biggest national park is also located in the country.

The Northeast Greenland National Park, covering an area of 972,000 square kilometers, is almost the combined size of France and Spain. It includes the “entire north eastern part of Greenland north of Ittoqqortoormiit (Scoresby Sound) and stretches from Knud Rasmussen’s Land in the north to Mestersvig in the east.”

According to VisitGreenland.com, there are about 40 people who permanently live in the area. The hunters from Ittoqqortoormiit go on dogsled trips and hunt in the National Park, which is basically otherwise uninhabited. They are the only ones who have regular access to the area.

The national park is also rich in arctic flora and fauna and along the thousand-kilometer-long coast, are the remains of ancient Inuit settlements, where many are thousands of years old. That’s why, each year, the area is the goal for a growing number of scientific expeditions and many come to explore the many traces of ancient settlements.

Northeast Greenland National Park in Greenland, Denmark is the largest national park in the world. ⠀⠀ It is sprawled out over an area of 927,000 sq km (375,000 sq mi). This makes the park larger than most countries. It would actually place 31st if it were a country, just behind Egypt. ⠀⠀ Its vast landscape sustains fascinating animals such as arctic foxes, musk oxen, and polar bears. ⠀⠀ This national park is truly rugged and is home to less than 50 human inhabitants.
