Plastic pollution is a serious issue that is destroying our planet and killing millions of animals on land and at sea. We produce around 300 million tons of plastic every year and experts are predicting that there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050. That is, of course, unless some really drastic measures are taken.

Those measures include every one of us changing our daily habits. What can we do?

Ok, so found the image that I had come across about seven years ago and can put this up now. I remember seeing it for the first time, thinking great, great, art work and great, GREAT….amazing depiction of plastic pollution problem back then. The plastic pollution in the ocean problem is escalating with very little progress. Although some companies like McDonalds are starting to take some action by removing plastic straws, last trip there I was given a cardboard straw and thought this really sucks, because it was hard to draw from, but glad they are helping to reduce the plastic issue. Then I spoke to some and they had not come across the cardboard straws ever? Have you? Some of the following stats were found…there is now 100 million tons of plastic in the ocean, each year 100 million sea birds die from plastic and 100,000 marine creatures from entanglement. It takes 10-1000 years for plastics to decompose. Our oceans are still becoming polluted daily at an alarming rate. Thank you for your dmโ€™s, posts and messages regarding plastics. At Baji skincare we have always taken plastics wastes seriously and want our planet, oceans to be plastic free and raise awareness about the issue. Always check for the plastic recyclable code at the bottom of containers and dispose responsibly. @ferdirizkiyanto image from the year 2011.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ #trashtag #trashtagchallenge #take3forthesea #seabinproject

Recycle

Buy plastic items that can be recycled later โ€“ many of them can. Be sure to recycle everything you can and you can even try and arrange a recycling program at your workplace.

Reuse

Avoid using single-use plastics. Believe it or not, itโ€™s not that hard โ€“ take your own reusable shopping bag, replace plastic cups, plates, and straws with the ones made from bamboo, etc.

Remove

Never leave trash outside. Look for food recycling bins to help save the environment, even if it means taking a walk and finding the bin. You can also help pick up trash in your neighborhood.

Composting is a great way to reduce your impact. ๐ŸŒฑโœจAmong other things, composting is good for the environment and it prevents unnecessary amounts of waste from going to landfills. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ € There are different composting options depending on where you live and how much space you have, as well as what you are going to compost (food or yard waste). The great news is that even if you don't have a yard or much space you can still get a Worm bin (vermicomposting). ๐Ÿ›โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € Do you have organic waste collection where you live or do you perhaps have your own compost?๐ŸŒฑ โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € Great post by @wandering_wild_home ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € #SustainableCollective #sustainableliving #sustainability #composting #foodwaste #ecocosmetics #minimalism #zerowaste #wastefree #zerowasteuk #ecolife #zerowastehome #plasticfree #journeytozerowaste #zerowasteuk #zerowasteliving #zerowastetips #goingzerowaste #ecofriendly #reducewaste #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastejourney #sustainablelifestyle #reducereuserecycle #ecofriendlyproduct

Refuse

When buying a beverage, you can always refuse straws or beverage tops. Do you really need them?
