]]>Manzo describes himself as a “hummingbird whisperer” and “hum daddy”, and his feeding videos attracted over 700,000 followers and 11 million likes to his TikTok. His viral clips are both hilarious and heartwarming, but how did he start “thirst trapping hummingbirds” and when did he embark on this journey?
Despite the fact he looks like a happy-go-lucky person, Manzo was in a pretty dark place before hummingbirds came into this life. He unexpectedly lost his aunt and grandmother in 2019 and felt out of place after moving from New Jersey to Oakland with his partner.
Things took a turn for the better when a hummingbird flew up to him while he was sitting on his balcony. This interaction put a smile on his face and inspired him to start feeding the delicate birds and wearing elaborate costumes along the way to make things interesting.
“For the first time in a really long time, it reminded me that I could still feel happiness; that I was still alive. Even though all these terrible things were happening, I could still feel happiness,” Manzo told the San Francisco Chronicle.

]]>TikTok user @sarahissorry recently shared a heartwarming video about how her dad found a way to feed the hungry hummingbirds during the recent freeze in Seattle.
In the clip, which went viral shortly after being published, @sarahissorry explains that the hummingbird feeder in their backyard was completely frozen, and the tiny birds couldn’t get the food from it.
“A hummingbird hopped back and forth to the door we were standing by. We think he was asking for help,” she says in the video.
Her dad couldn’t stop thinking about the troubles that hummingbirds were going through, so he decided to do something about it. The clever dad figured out he could attach a candle warmer to the feeder and keep the food running.
“Now about 7 of them have been feasting all morning,” the TikToker shared.
Other TikTok users were delighted by the dad’s move and made sure to let him know in the comment section.
“Your Dad is the REAL MVP!” one user wrote.
“Your dad has an amazing heart, please let him know how awesome he is,” added another.

]]>Hummingbirds are the only bird species that can fly backward. They are able to do this because of the unique movement of their wings, which can rotate 180 degrees. Other birds fly with simple up-and-down movements.
Hummingbirds have no sense of smell. Instead, they rely on their hearing and vision to get around and find food. They are attracted to bright colors, with red flowers seeming to be their favorite.
Hummingbirds are not only the smallest bird that migrates but also the rare ones that do it solo. This is despite the fact that they are known to cover hundreds of miles during a single migration. Solo flying actually makes sense for hummingbirds because it is harder for predators to spot them this way.
Hummingbirds spend a lot of energy flying, which is why they eat a lot. And we mean a lot, at least by their standards. Some species are known to eat every 10 to 15 minutes, while others can consume twice their body weight in a single day.

Hummingbirds can flap their wings at an amazing rate of up to 200 times per seconds. They are able to fly in any direction they want, and that’s when their bodies hum.
