]]> A giant panda national park will be built in China. It will spread over 10,476 square miles and should be finalized this fall.

The national park will connect 67 panda reserves in the southwestern province of Sichuan — the place where more than 80% of world’s pandas live.

As China Daily reports, China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration wants to connect the reserves so the different groups of pandas can interbreed and boost the panda population while improving the genetic diversity.

“Giant pandas will be the major species under protection in the national park. Apart from them, more than 8,000 kinds of wildlife, including snub-nosed monkeys, will also benefit,” said Yang Chao, the administration’s director.

]]> It was the middle of the night when giant panda Li Li started giving birth at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan province. The vets came and were ready to take care of one of the babies that will probably get neglected by the mother.

Twin pregnancies are common in pandas, but the mothers almost always ignore one of the babies and devote to the other. That’s why human help is needed.

See below BBC earth’ video in which the keepers swap the babies so the panda mom could devote to both equally.

BBC’s new series Dynasties, in which David Attenborough goes on a journey to follow the greatest animals of their kind, will premier in BBC soon.
