]]> Rebecca Wang is a painter, who is so skilled at what she does, she can capture the beauty of animals better than any photograph ever could.

She mostly uses acrylic paints, pastels, and colored pencils to bring all sorts of animals to life – dogs, birds, wolves, tigers, reptiles and even some mythological creatures like dragons and phoenix birds.

“As a former veterinary technician, I have always had a deep love and appreciation for animals and the natural world,” the artist wrote on Bored Panda. “I distill this passion into each painting I create, allowing the individual personality and spirit of each animal to shine through. I especially like to focus on the eyes and put the most detail there. After all, the eyes, as they say, are the windows to the soul.”

Wang claims her love for drawing was born the moment she could hold a pencil in her hand. Nevertheless, her artistic journey started 12 years ago and for the past two years she’s been creating these incredible pet portraits.

A vibrant and colorful portrait of a Siamese cat. Painted with acrylics on board, 11" x 14". This is a traditional, or apple head, Siamese. These were the original royal cats of Thailand (Siam). This painting is based off of a seal point, which is typically a cream color with dark brown markings. The "points" are represented with blues, purples, and magenta, while the cream is represented by yellow and orange. She is lit from behind and to the left. A colorful Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie), done for the Twitter Art Exhibit #tae19 This will be mailed to Scotland next week to a charity fundraiser. This is painted with acrylics on cold press watercolor paper, and measures 6.3" wide by 4.7" tall (16 x 12 cm). This is the smallest painting I have ever done! In retrospect, I should have gone with colored pencils, but I think that this came out better than I anticipated. This had its own set of challenges. The first, painting in such a small format is difficult, and I had to use my smallest brushes. Logically you would think working in a smaller size would take less time, but that was not the case! Also, even though I applied two layers of gesso, the paper was still very thirsty and soaked up my acrylic paints very fast.
