]]> Spanish sculptor, Gerard Mas, is the talent behind these incredible sculptures of our favorite pets — cats and dogs. Mas carves the animals in tree trunks and alabaster stone keeping his work as minimalistic as possible.

“Gerard Mas was born in 1976 in Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona). He studied at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades “Llotja” of Barcelona. He specializes in sculpture and stone carving. 1998-2001,” states his website (translated from Spanish).

“He graduated as curator and restorer of sculpture at the Higher School of Conservation and Restoration of Béns Culturals de Catalunya, Barcelona 1994-1998.”

]]> Artist Calvin Ma expresses social anxiety through his surreal ceramic sculptures of human-bird hybrids. The bird elements represent the protection of the person from the outside world. The design reflects Ma’s struggle with social interactions.

“I never really felt comfortable in my own skin in social settings, so I created these characters to help tell stories about it,” the artist told This Is Colossal. “Each piece is meant to act out a specific social anxiety related experience. I try not to get too dark or serious with the work and really try to have fun with it.”

“Once she decided to leave the corporate world for good, she opened a new page in her life and decided to follow the passion of her life, art! She loves bringing fruitful colors to the lives of others and she enjoys spreading her joy in many places around the world,” Runa’s website reads.
