While most of us will enjoy Thanksgiving with our families and friends, thousands of homeless dogs and cats will spend this holiday in the hope that someone will walk through that door and give them a proper home they deserve. This is why some animal shelters decided to host Thanksgiving dinners for them and treat them with adequate holiday meals.

Louisville Metro Animal Service organized a big feast for 200 dogs and cats with the help of Rudy Green’s Doggy Cuisine. According to Karla Haas, president of the company, the dinner was made of usual Thanksgiving treats like “ground turkey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, green beans, celery, bread cubes, stuffing, and cranberries.”

The residents of New York’s Buffalo Animal Shelter, on the other hand, had the opportunity to taste the food prepared by local chef Malik Von Saint, who has a tradition of making holiday meals for cats and dogs. The dogs received a meal containing of turkey and quinoa while cats feasted on salmon.

Other animal shelters took a different route, and provided temporary homes for the shelter dogs and cats over the holiday weekend.

Actor and animal advocate Rocky Kanaka also decided to give shelter animals a proper Thanksgiving dinner, hosting one at Marley’s Mutts dog rescue in Tehachapi, California. If you are curious to see how that looked like, check out the video below.
