“Barclay was almost scared. He never bothered the ducks. He always looked at them from far away,” Pam told The Dodo. “They have lived in the same household for three years before they even started hanging out together.”

But one day, he decided to walk into the coop, and that is when Rudy fell in love with Barclay.

“Rudy would chase Barclay and Barclay would run away. Barclay really likes the smell of the ducks. The ducks climb on top of him. In the morning, he always comes into the coop with me and just sort of greets them,” she added.

Pam documents their adventures on Instagram where her videos regularly get tens of thousands of likes from her over 200,000 followers.

“They’ve just kind of grown up, done everything together, from eating to napping, bath time, everything, Tyler’s mom shared on The Dodo. “He started walking and Beaker was right there behind him when he took his first step.”

As time went by, their bond got stronger and stronger. Although, with Tyler being at school, the buddies didn’t spend a lot of time together, but it didn’t affect their friendship.

“It’s changing a little bit cause Tyler’s going to school, he’s in Pre-K right now,” she added. “But it’s still, when he comes home, it’s outside with Beaker. It’s all kind of the same, just now, they’re just a little bit older. It’s definitely a brotherhood now.”

“I happened to find this group of mergansers purely by luck, but I was absolutely amazed by what I saw,” Cizek says. “At the time I didn’t know anything about the species, so I wasn’t sure if what I witnessed was a common occurrence or something out of the ordinary. All I knew was that I had never seen anything like that before.”

As female ducks can usually incubate no more than 20 eggs, it’s likely that many of these little folks have lost their mothers before they were adopted by Momma Merganser, as Cizek nicknamed their leader.

Cizek has posted several images of this big family on Instagram so far, but he plans to keep following them and to share their lives with us.
