Canadian artist Rose Tanner dedicates her work almost entirely to birds. Using traditional oil painting techniques, she captures birds in flight, nesting, and going about their daytoday. The end result is uncannily lifelike, zooming in on the mysterious, magnification, lives of birds.

Some of her paintings include endangered birds, calling to mind the importance of protecting avian species. “Endangered birds are a gauge to the health of our environment,” Tanner writes on her website.

“By protecting the endangered we reassess our environment and our actions to come up with solutions for the species survival. It leads to growth, education, community and improves the environment, wouldn’t you say these are all great reasons to protect the endangered?”

Finished! Spring 24×30 Oil on Linen.

A post shared by Oil Painter – Bird Art (@rosetannerart) on

Having studied illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and oil painting with Daniel Keys as well as several other contemporary master painters, Tanner now utilizes her talent to develop and promote the work of others, teaching and sharing her knowledge of classical oil painting.

But her work also includes a lot of research, as she studies her subjects outdoors. “One time I travelled 12,000 kilometers for a species,” she recalled in a piece posted on Artsy Shark. “Crazy, right?” According to Tanner, many people do not see birds because they are small and fleeting. “But with a long lens, I have witnessed extraordinary behaviour that inspires me deeply,” she explains.

Australian contemporary artist, Victoria Velozo, hopes to raise awareness about the ways in which we treat and mistreat our natural surroundings. As such, most of her paintings tend to center around the animal kingdom, with birds at the forefront.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CCHlkzwDo5u/

Her unique paintings are a blend or realism and surrealism, with the animals painted against dramatic backgrounds, featuring splashes of color alongside patches of texture and pattern.

“When beginning a new work, I create the backgrounds first,” relayed Velozo in a piece posted on Artsy Shark. “They represent an abstract version of an environmental landscape in which the featured animal will be placed.” According to Velozo, she works quickly in this stage, often utilizing water, sponges, collage, and layering. “I believe this evokes a sense of movement and depth,” she explains.

Next, she uses watercolor to create the smaller creatures and birds which will be hidden in the background of the scene. Finally, she sketches and paints in the main feature, usually a bird, as the focal point of the painting. “Other than the realistic feature, I try not to have too much of a developed, preconceived idea of what I want the painting to look like when I begin,” says Velozo. The final piece is meant to stir your emotion, encouraging a feeling of care and concern for the natural environment.

Aside from paintings, Velozo work is also now printed on facemasks, highlightingβ€”now more than everβ€”the importance of listening to what nature has to tell us in this day and age.

If nothing, 2020 has served as a teaching tool about the ways in which we treat and mistreat our natural surroundings. Nature, in all its harshness and beauty, has made its mark, but will we care to listen?

For most of her adult life, artist Alison Nicholls has been promoting awareness about conservation issues through her paintings and sketches. Inspired by the people, wildlife, and landscapes of Africa, Nicholls works with conservation organizations and leads what she calls “Art Safaris” for Africa Geographic.

After living herself for several years in Botswana and Zimbabwe, she now regularly returns to Africa to sketch in the field, and teach others to take her lead. “My Conservation Sketching Expeditions allow me to visit African conservation organizations, sketch on site and learn in detail about conservation issues,” she explains on her website. “I use the resulting sketches and paintings to raise awareness and funds for the organizations’ field work. These visits also inspired the creation of a growing body of conservation and environmental-themed paintings based on issues I have encountered in the field.”

According to Nicholls, she makes a donation to African conservation organizations from every purchase of her art, which includes acrylics, watercolors, limited editions, and daily sketches. Her work can be also bought from her Etsy shop.

“Everywhere people are suffering physically, financially and mentally from the pandemic and obviously this includes many Africans who work in tourism, wildlife research or conservation,” she recently wrote in a blog post. “Much vital conservation work involves people rather than wildlife. Reducing human-wildlife conflict, conducting anti-poaching patrols, or helping rural people find sustainable income-generating opportunities are all conservation activities that help people but also ensure the continued existence of endangered species.”

Naoto Hattori is a Japanese artist who paints small fluffy animals in surreal style, giving them huge eyes to turn them into unnatural hybrids. His subjects typically have round heads and oversized eyes, and he often makes hybrids by turning two animals into one.

His paintings are small and usually range from 85 to 92” without a frame. β€œWhen I closed my eyes, I could see a colorful eye like a mandala and it kept changing shape like a kaleidoscope. I drew hundreds of the eye images. Back then, I was thinking that it was something everyone could see,” he told This Is Colossal.

When he got older, he earned a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. The surreal paintings he creates are in his unique style. As he says, he likes painting concepts that can’t be exactly expressed in words, like emotions and feelings. That’s why, without him intending to, his works end up being surreal.

We all love our pets very much and we’d do anything to keep them safe and make them happy. However, there are many different ways to show how much we love our loyal companions. Ordering a giant Renaissance-style portrait of our pet is one them.

A company named Crown & Paw specializes in creating amazing and unique pet portraits that are inspired by 19th-century paintings and the rare Renaissance-era. They can easily transform any pet into a member of royalty and the paintings we’ve seen so far and priceless.

“We design them all by hand using a range of blending and retouching techniques,” the company representative explained in an interview for Bored Panda. “All of our prints are completely unique to you and aren’t available anywhere else in the world.”

Even though they started this business in March 2019, the company already has a rich portfolio of astonishing portraits of dogs and cats, but also goats, a hedgehog, and a snake. Yes, that’s right! A snake can be a royal, too.

Take a look at some of their artwork and think about getting one of these portraits for your pet as well.

We humans often have the tendency to forget that we’re alone on this planet. There are other living creatures that we often forget about or even worse, use them for our own purpose. This is an important issue that South Korean artist Young-sung Kim is trying to address in his work.

His oil paintings from the series called β€œNothing. Life. Object.” look so realistic and lifelike, just like the problems he’s trying to show to the world. From fish trapped in glass bowls to frogs captured in jars, Kim’s paintings are representing a cruel and painful reality. He thinks that modern society is often forgetting about other living organisms, as a result of β€œadvanced development of material civilizations.”

β€œWhat is the meaning or value of living organisms in modern civilization? What is the meaning of living organisms to humans? They exist with us in the same environment, but they are always faced as food or decorative elements in a lower hierarchy,” Kim said.

Kim is using minuscule brushes to paint all of the details in these artworks and capture the beauty of animals.

Check out these unbelievable paintings in the photos below.

Article on @mymodernmet🐳 South Korean artist Young-sung Kim has made a name for himself thanks to his hyperrealistic oil paintings of fish swimming in glass bowls and cups. Kim uses minuscule brushes to pull out every detail of his subjects, whether it be the colorful tail of a beta fish or the shimmering scales of a goldfish. Painted on large canvases, the animals are laid out like living still lifes for the viewer to admire. The photorealistic paintings are part of Kim’s ongoing series Nothing. Life. Object. that speaks to the disintegration of modern society in the face of the β€œadvanced development of material civilizations.” By juxtaposing living and material things and displaying them as a piece of theater or advertising, Kim wishes to comment on society’s tendency to neglect living organisms. The painter’s fascination with the beauty of living creatures began when he was a child, as they forced him to stop and contemplate their place in the world. These creatures are now metaphors for life in Kim’s series and they are forced out of their natural setting into an object that cages them. β€œWhat is the meaning or value of living organisms in the modern civilization? What is the meaning of living organisms to humans? They exist with us in the same environment, but they are always faced as food or decorative elements in a lower hierarchy,” Kim writes. β€œDespite that they are living things with meaning and value of existence, the humans only use them for clear purposes when we have certain reasons. In the modern society, this structure is applied to the relationships between men, men and organization, or men and society. Humans, a living organism, is sometimes considered and used as a functional object.” #κΉ€μ˜μ„± #극사싀 #λ¬Όκ³ κΈ° #개ꡬ리 #베타 #κ·Ήμ‚¬μ‹€μ£Όμ˜ #bettaholic #ykim #YoungsungKim #Hyperrealism #hyperrealistic #oil #painting #drawing #contemporaryart #art #handpainted #environment #frog #snail #insect #goldfish #animal #sculpture #museum #artgallery #modernart #betta #mymodernmet

Lisa Ericson is an illustrator and designer who is using her talents to paint different animals in magical, surreal environments. Her latest series mostly focuses on animals like deer, flamingos, and turtles, who are all emerging from crystal blue water and are surrounded by colorful plants and corals.

Ericson’s unique style can be easily recognized because she places all of her colorful compositions against a black background for a more dramatic effect.

So what was her inspiration to create these magical paintings?

β€œMy ideas are often science-inspired, but with a surreal twist. I may read or hear about a scientific or environmental phenomenon and it provides a kernel of inspiration which can lead to a painting or an entire series,” the artist wrote on her website.

β€œI think of the animals in my paintings as simultaneously representing the natural world and also reflecting our own human struggle and emotion. I like to draw parallels between the two.”

Ericson’s paintings are done in acrylics on wood panels and she sometimes needs a month to finish one piece. However, thanks to her talent and exquisite technique, the animals she’s painting look so real.

β€œWhat is the meaning or value of living organisms in modern civilization? What is the meaning of living organisms to humans? They exist with us in the same environment, but they are always faced as food or decorative elements in a lower hierarchy,” Kim said.

Kim is using minuscule brushes to paint all of the details in these artworks and capture the beauty of animals.

Take a look at her artwork below.
