“Every time we walk into Disney, she always has a really happy prance,” she told The Dodo and added that her dog is crazy about rides. “Her favorite ride is Pirates. I can’t think of a ride that she doesn’t like. She loves the PeopleMover. She loves the Speedway.”

Megan got the canine at 8 weeks from a breeder, and they started basic obedience training the second day she came home. Besides the crazy rides, Nala also likes the Disney characters. She will go up to them, cuddle with them, and melt many hearts.

“They look like giant stuffed animals to her. She’s always liked the full-body costume characters. She thinks that the big costume ones are like giant dog toys. She’ll try to cuddle with them. She also really likes the face characters, like Cinderella,” Megan added.

If you want to follow their journey, check out the gallery below, or have a look at Nala’s Instagram account.

A service dog is a service dog in a vest or not. Some handlers train their dogs to associate their vest with working/tasking, and no vest with off duty time/free to be a dog/don’t have to help. Though, I never trained Nala to associate her vest with “work.” I want her to know her help is wanted whether we’re at home relaxing or in an environment where she does have to heel at my side and have good public access manners. • That being said, yesterday was a very low key day for us as we weren’t really out in public so she lounged most of the day and played outside, normal dog stuff. She was in “pet mode” for lack of a better phrase, the entire day. I had to run a quick errand later in the evening. I was standing by my car outside the passenger seat on the phone with a friend. Life has been a little bit hectic for me lately and I started to get worked up. Nala heard the change in my voice so there she comes from the back seat, doing her best to try to climb over the barrier, whining and wagging her tail. I was zoned in on what I was trying to do and in the moment, I knew she was trying to come help but I brushed it off. It got significantly worse and she climbed over the barrier completely, threw herself into me, pushing into my face, doing everything I taught her to do so she could to get me to stop crying all with a wagging tail. She was persistent, I didn’t have any treats on me, she just knows her job and loves to do it. I also want to add that she has excellent car manners, never climbs over the barrier, and if the car is moving/on, she is absolutely not allowed to come help. I suppose that could be confusing for her, so I try my very best never ever to drive if I’m getting upset or upset to a level where she would pick up on it. First off, it’s not safe for me and others on the road, and not safe for her. I ALWAYS pull over if I feel like anything is about to go down. I honestly will be investing in a crash tested car seat harness for her, as I would just prefer she’s as safe as possible. • That being said, she doesn’t need to have her vest on to do her job. I know she is always keeping an eye out for me, even if she’s free to chill out, play, and relax.💜

“I’m a disabled teen living life with a service dog,” Leon shared on his YouTube channel. “Sunshine is my medical alert and response dog, who saves my life every day. I mean, just look at that face, it’s lifesaving in itself.”

Sunshine and his owner love making jokes and learning about other service animals and how to behave around them. During his training, Sunshine learned how to get help, get his dad’s medicine, stay by his dad’s side, respond to fainting, alert to high heart rate, perform tasks in public, and many other amazing tricks a service dog needs to know.

Luke was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was just 2-years-old; his pancreas suddenly stopped producing insulin. Luke, who is also hypoglycemic unaware, can’t tell when his blood sugars are running low.

This is where Jedi comes into the picture. Luke’s family wanted to do all they could do to help him take care of his Diabetes; so they decided to adopt a Diabetic Alert Dog. Jedi, a black Labrador Retriever, is trained to alert family and friends when Luke’s blood sugar levels are too high or too low.

Last day of 4th grade for these two!

A post shared by Luke and Jedi (@lukeandjedi) on

Diabetic Alert Dogs are a new type of service dog; Jedi can smell dangerous changes in Luke’s glucose level before his diabetic sugar monitor can. He has even beaten the monitor by 10 minutes!

When Jedi senses Luke’s blood sugar levels are dropping he grabs a “bringsel — a short stick used by service dog — and brings it to whoever is home as an alert that something is wrong. Nuttall then trained Jedi to wave a paw if Luke’s blood sugar is high and to bow if it’s low” as written on CNN.com.

The two are best friends, they are inseparable. You can learn more about Luke and Jedi’s journey in their documentary Luke & Jedi that came out in 2018 or on their official Instagram or Facebook page.

It’s so hard to explain to people how much thought and work goes into diabetes unless they live it. It’s not easy to show how challenging it can be to be a pancreas. Usually at this time of night we are battening stubborn highs because he is growing and when the body releases growth hormones he is very resistant to insulin. (All kids go through this but you don’t really know it’s happening because the body just takes care of everything unless you have type 1). But today he went to a birthday party and he had sooo much fun. For three hours straight he ran, jumped, played football as hard as he could. I stayed close and provided adjustments to his insulin doses and had him eat extra carbs when the activity started to drop him low. The party ended with a low from a crazy game of hide-and -go-seek that was quickly fixed with the frosting of a cupcake and more fun. Phew.. a success. But now even hours after the party and probably through the night we will be seeing different patterns in his blood sugar. His insulin has been turned down, he has had carbs .. now we wait to see how his body will react. We act based on what usually happens or patterns of blood sugar.. so right now I am trying to prevent more lows from the extra active day.. my strategy may work .. or it may lead to another night of highs. As much as I’m tired.. I’m not writing this down as a complaint. I write this down so that others who don’t live it can see what it takes to live with this 24/7. I’d look after him forever if I could.. but I can’t (not sure he wants me to move in with him when he gets married one day 🤷🏼‍♀️) so one day this will all be up to him.. until then we’ve got him covered and I will keep writing because #weneedacure Diabetes isn’t as simple as people think it is and although Luke can do everything anything anyone else can do but the reality is it’s a lot of work and planning and diligence and ups and downs and it’s not always easy. Good low Jedi thanks for waking me up (again).

Thai, a service dog, has been guiding Danielle Sykora for four years now and he’s doing a great job except when there are treats nearby.

Danielle is currently a student at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and during weekends, she and her dog travel from school to her home in New Jersey. Danielle and her sister, Michele Sykora, will go to the mall together and do a little shopping during these visits. Thai also loves taking trips to the mall for his own motives.

On one incident, her father noticed that, without Danielle knowing, Thai likes visiting a particular pet store called Cool Dog Gear.

“The first time my sister ever went to this mall, she was with my dad and Thai just veered right into the store without her knowing,” Michele shared to The Dodo. “The second time we went back there, I wanted to witness it for myself, so we walked in the direction of the pet store and of course he walked right in there again!”

Michele decided to have her phone ready to capture what the sneaky dog is doing. She caught his tricks on video and shared it to her Twitter account, where it quickly went viral.

“If there is any word to describe Thai, it is probably ‘foodie,’” Michele explained. “He will do anything to get a crumb on the floor.”

Danielle wasn’t surprised when her family revealed to her where Thai had been leading her. She said that this is not the first time something like this happened. At her school, Thai will take her to Starbucks, since he knows she loves coffee and there’s always a Puppuccino waiting for him. There’s also a trip one summer that the clever dog leads her to every store that sold food, skipping the clothing shops she was interested in.

But for all Thais’ naughtiness, he never leaves his mom’s side. “Thai and Danielle have a relationship only a person with a service dog could ever understand. He is her eyes. He goes with her absolutely everywhere,” Michele shared. “Even when Thai isn’t working and we are home, if she leaves the room he will get up and follow her everywhere.”

Thai, a service dog, has been guiding Danielle Sykora for four years now and he’s doing a great job except when there are treats nearby.
