]]> The Guinea Pig Festival is an event held across Peru, in many cities and villages around the country. The National Guinea Pig Day is celebrated on the second Friday of October but the celebration actually lasts for months, between July and November.

In every city/village, there is a “beauty contest” for choosing the biggest and best-dressed rodents.

Over the years, the pet owners are only becoming more and more creative. It’s not rare to see the rodents dressed as dancers, queens, pop culture personalities, etc.

Last week we were at the Guinea Pig Festival in Poroy, Cusco. The guinea pig (or Cuy) is a celebrated animal here in Peru and even has it's own named National Holiday in October. Within the festival you can see guinea pig fashion shows and sample some cooked Cuy if you wish…..
