Instagram is home to countless embroidery artists inspired by the animal world, but none of them compares to Emily of The Artful Possum. She’s stitching together silly embroidery art with hilarious quotes, and most of her creations put opossums front and center.
Emily is a British embroidery artist, who decided to give this art form a shot in 2021. It was a love at first sight, and it didn’t take her long to develop her signature quirky style and become a true Instagram sensation, with almost 70,000 followers under her belt.
Just like the name of her brand suggests, most of Emily’s embroideries show opossums in all sorts of hilarious scenarios. She also enjoys paying homage to other animals, including foxes, rabbits, mice, and otters.
Emily learned everything she knows on her own, and she’s now selling her signature embroidery patterns in the hope they’ll inspire other people to give this art form a shot.
“I am entirely self-taught and love that hand embroidery is something you can teach yourself at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I really enjoy coming up with silly and fun designs with the aim of making people smile and I am a firm advocate in ‘stitch what makes you happy,” she writes on her Etsy page.
