Amazing Jumpers
One of the most impressive things about impalas are their jumping abilities since they can leap up to 10 feet in the air in a single bound, which is more than three times their height.
Unique Species
Impalas are one of a kind because they happen to be the only surviving members of the genus Aepyceros from the Bovidae family, which also includes buffalos, sheep, goats, and cows.
Social Order
Despite being pretty social animals, impalas tend to break down into three types of herds during the mating season, including female herds, bachelor herds, and mixed herds led by territorial males.
Warning Calls
Impalas are one of the main prey animals of the African savanna. One study found that they can recognize each other’s warning calls and often use them to tell nearby impalas, zebras, and wildebeests it’s time to flee.
Synchronous Breeders
Impalas tend to mate and give birth around the same time each year, breeding around the wet season and giving birth at its start, thus giving the calves their best shot at survival.
