Dogs are prone to all sorts of mischievous acts. They will make a mess, eat forbidden things, chew on your footwear, and more. But the fascinating thing is that they do it despite knowing they shouldn’t and later feel quite guilty about it.
In a recent amusing video shared on Instagram, one dog owner shared the “stages of guilt” that her Labrador Zara went through after she chewed dad’s slipper.
Zara can be seen activating “the tail of guilt” and avoiding eye contact after her mom discovered the crime. Then, the pupper goes into panic mode after hearing the dad coming downstairs. Zara then tries to look innocent to the best of her abilities, but that somehow makes her look even more guilty.
“The stages of guilt when dad’s slipper gets chewed. (Have you ever met a dog with more of a guilty conscience I cannot cope)” wrote Zara’s owner in the caption of the video.
Instagram users shared their opinions on Zara’s “crime in the comments section, with many of them defending the dog. However, there were some who didn’t believe the dog actually felt guilty.
“Yeah, dogs are great manipulators to avoid punishment, but they don’t feel guilt and will definitely do it again without correction,” one person wrote.
