Black Pets Are the Last to Get Adopted. This Photographer Wants to Change That

We have all heard that superstition that black cats bring bad luck. But did you know that this one of the reasons why black cats are the last ones to get adopted from shelters? Black cats and dogs have a harder time finding new homes. Photographer Emma O’Brien is trying her best to change that.

In one of her latest projects, Emma captured beautiful portraits of black cats and dogs, in the hopes of helping them find forever homes.

“Black dogs and cats get a raw deal when it comes to being unwanted. Ending up at a shelter is bad news for any animal, but black critters are the least likely to be adopted and if they are lucky enough to be chosen by an adoptee, they will have waited the longest”, O’Brien wrote for Bored Panda.

Some of the reasons why black cats and dogs are the last ones on the list for adoption is that they don’t photograph well, they’re boring to look at, and they look aggressive. O’Brien managed to disprove all of these with her amazing portraits.
