Bride Pauses Her Wedding to Rescue a Possum

A unique story comes to us from Australia, where one bride decided to pause her wedding so she could rescue a possum.

Darling Range Wildlife Shelter in Orange Grove, Australia, recently shared a post of appreciation for their volunteer PJ Dhaliwal, who loves animals so much that not even getting married was more important than helping wildlife in need.

As it turns out, Dhaliwal was in the middle of her wedding ceremony, which was taking place in a Western Australian nature park, when one member of her family approached her and told her about a possum that was being attacked by ravens. The bride didn’t hesitate for one second, immediately leaving everything to help it.

“I saw this possum and I saw it was in a really bad way, there were people everywhere and it was getting attacked by birds,” Dhaliwal shared in a chat with Yahoo Australia. “I just kinda forgot it was my wedding and went into wildlife career and rescue mode.”

Dhaliwal went to her car, causing some concerns that she might be a runaway bride, to get her emergency kit before taking down the possum from the tree by herself. After making sure that the possum was not in immediate danger, she proceeded with the wedding ceremony while one of the guests took the animal to a nearby wildlife rescue location.

Dhaliwal ended up getting married for the love of her life, and the possum was nursed back to health and is ready to return to the wild.

“I’ve had an update that she’s recovering really well and hopefully will be released back into the wild soon,” she added.
