Delphine Dion is a French artist who has loved nature and animals her entire life, so her path came naturally; she began studying ecology while drawing remained only her hobby. Fast forward a couple of years later, now she is a freelance illustrator whose Instagram page is full of colorful watercolor paintings of the animal kingdom.

Retour aux illustrés ! Ce minet qui se nomme Minou (ça ne s’invente pas !) à été réalisé sur commande l’année dernière, en compagnie du papyrus de la famille. Les enfants étaient plus que contents de voir leur chat adoré dessiné et ont même trouvé qu’il était plus beau que le vrai 😂 ⠀ Comme vous l’avez peut être déjà remarqué, j’ai beaucoup de demande de portraits de chats avec une plante ! C’est une association très appréciée apparemment ! “For me, this is the perfect job, but the thing I love most about it is when people see their pet’s portrait for the first time, and it makes them so happy,” the artist shared on Bored Panda and added that she has found her aesthetic.

“My style has evolved throughout these years to achieve what I realize today: semi-realistic illustrations in a soft and rounded style full of life thanks to bright colors, combining watercolors and colored pencils, always linked to the animal world and nature.”

Je n’ai encore jamais eu l’occasion de tirer le portrait d’un reptile, alors je me suis rattrapée en faisant une Tortue d’Hermann, bien connue dans le Var (où j’habite actuellement), dernier département français (hors Corse) où elle est encore présente. Malheureusement, elle est toujours en déclin, en particulier à cause de la disparition de son habitat, les accidents (rencontres avec des chiens, des voitures ou des outils de jardinage motorisés) mais aussi par le ramassage intempestif des gens qui croient bien faire 😞⠀ Si vous croisez une Tortue d’Hermann lors de vos balades dans le Var, surtout ne la ramassez pas si elle ne semble pas blessée ! Si c’est le cas, contactez la @soptom_officiel qui pourra vous renseigner sur les bons gestes à adopter.⠀ 👉 Vous pouvez trouver cette illustration sous forme de reproduction dans la Greeny-boutique (lien dans la bio) 😉⠀ Delphine⠀ ***⠀ 🇬🇧 I never had the chance to have a commission for a reptile’s portait yet, so I did a Hermann’s Tortoise to correct the fact I didn’t have any reptiles in my portfolio 😅 This specie lives only in Southern Europe, from Eastern Spain to Greece. In France, we find the tortoise only in the Var department (where I live) and Corsica. Unfortunately, the species is threatened because of habitat loss, accidents (with dogs, cars or gardening tools) and also well-meaning people who think that the tortoises will be safer in their garden 😞⠀ If you meet a Hermann’s Tortoise during your trip to Southern Europe, don’t pick it up if it not hurt ! Ce petit Bruce a rejoint son humaine de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique, en Floride, en compagnie de Lucky, le petit chien blanc que vous pouvez voir sur la deuxième image. Ces deux loulous sont malheureusement décédés mais sont tellement aimés que leur humaine souhaitait faire faire un portrait pour chacun. Inktober Jour 3 – Le Vison d’Europe (Mustela lutreola) est un petit mammifère semi-aquatique en « danger critique d’extinction » selon l’UICN. Autrefois largement répandu en Europe, il est de nos jours cantonné à quelques petites populations dans certains pays d’Europe (France, Espagne, Roumanie, Russie et Ukraine). Il a été largement chassé pour sa fourrure jusqu’au milieu du 20eme siècle, puis son habitat a été impacté et l’est encore par les changements de pratiques agricoles, il subit la concurrence du Vison d’Amérique, échappé des fermes à fourrure. Il existe plusieurs programmes de conservation du vison d’Europe dans certains pays, et une population a été réintroduite sur l’île Hiiumaa en Estonie.⠀ 💡Nous avons choisi cette espèce pour le thème #bait (appât) car ce vison a longtemps été piégé (probablement à l’aide d’appâts👍🏼) pour sa fourrure et continue de l’être accidentellement dans les pièges destinés à capturer des espèces dites « nuisibles »…💡⠀ ***⠀ 🇬🇧 Inktober Day 3 – The European Mink (Mustela lutreola) is a small semi-aquatic mammal, « Critically Endangered » according to the UICN. Once widely spread throughout Europe, it occurs nowadays only in small patches of populations in some European countries (France, Spain, Romania, Russia and Ukraine). Inktober Jour 2 – Le Rhinocéros de Sumatra (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) est classé en « danger critique d’extinction » selon l’UICN. Autrefois largement répandu dans une partie de l’Asie du sud est, il est aujourd’hui représenté par quelques populations vivant à Sumatra, Bornéo et dans la péninsule malaisienne. L’espèce a été décimée par le braconnage à cause des propriétés attribuées à sa corne et à d’autres parties de son corps par la médecine chinoise. Sa survie est très compromise avec un nombre d’individus estimé à environ 80, et des populations très réduites et fragmentées, ce qui a un impact très important sur la viabilité de l’espèce. Des programmes de conservation existent in situ, mais aussi en captivité.⠀ 💡Nous avons choisi cette espèce pour le thème #mindless (irréfléchi, stupide) à cause de la raison pour laquelle elle est braconnée (il n’y pas besoin de plus d’explications !)💡⠀ ⠀ ***⠀ 🇬🇧 Inktober Jour 2 – The Sumatran Rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) is considered as « Critically Endangered » by the IUCN. Once widely spread in a part of South Eastern Asia, it occurs now only in Sumatra, Borneo and the Malaysian peninsula in very few populations. This species was decimated by poaching for the supposedly medicinal properties of its horns and other body parts in Chinese medicine. The species survival is uncertain because of the number of about 80 individuals left in the wild and the very reduced and fragmented populations.
