Check Out Weltvogelpark Walsrode: The World’s Largest Bird Park

With over 4,000 birds of more than 650 different species from every continent and climatic zone, Weltvogelpark Walsrode is considered the largest bird park in the world in terms of species as well as land area. Located in the municipality of Bomlitz, Lower Saxony, Germany, the park covers 24 hectares and has a range of birds that you cannot see in other parks in the world.

The park was established in 1962 and started as a private hobby of Walsroder businessman Fritz Geschke for breeding pheasants and water birds. In 1964, he transferred the park to his son-in-law Wolf Brehm who expanded it rapidly, turning it into a world-class attraction for nature and animal lovers.

Today, the huge park features walk-in halls with different themes, tropical halls, indoor and outdoor aviaries, as well as outdoor enclosures. The park also offers flying shows in an open-air stage where you can see not only eagles and falcons in the shows, but also parrots, pelicans, and ducks.

Visitors can meet the birds in an environment modeled after their natural habitat. There are also various feeding demonstrations and a young bird rearing station for children.

In addition to their many attractions and shows, Weltvogelpark participates in the European Endangered Species Programme were the first to successfully breed a number of species.
