Most people see insects as terrifying and even disgusting creatures, but Chen Zha decided to present them in completely different art. She’s a talented artist and entomologist, who’s putting an adorable spin on insects through her amazing illustrations.
Zha has always been a huge nature lover, and she decided to pursue her passion by studying life science at the University of Science and Technology of China. Entomology later became her area of expertise and she decided to obtain a Master’s Degree and PhD in entomology in the United States.
After finishing the university, Zha found a way to blend her love for art and insects into one through her amazing illustrations.
“As an entomologist myself, I have always been amazed by the way artwork makes science communication so much easier. So here I am, an artist with palettes instead of pipettes, helping other scientists, as well as myself, to turn lab notebooks into paintings, posters, picture books, and other visual mediums,” she explains on her official website.
Zha is no stranger to photo-realistic illustrations, but she decided to make insects more approachable by presenting them in a more adorable light. In addition to drawing insects, she also enjoys experimenting with other mediums and using polymer clay to bring them to life.
