Claire Milligan’s Intricate Drawings Are Bringing Birds to Life

Claire Milligan has been drawing for decades, and her body of work is a celebration of the natural world she holds so dear to her heart. This wildlife artist used colored pencils to bring many amazing creatures to life, but her talent is shining brighter than ever when she’s drawing birds.

Milligan is a full-time artist from Yorkshire, UK, who’s been working on pet portraits since the 90s, when she mostly worked with graphite. A whole new world opened up to her when she entered the realm of colored pencils and started combining this technique with acrylic painting.

Her drawings became more intricate and highly realistic once she embraced a new artistic style, allowing her to meticulously render the soul and essence of each animal.

“Her wellspring of inspiration flows from the natural world, and she consistently endeavors to infuse every piece with genuine emotion and soul, aiming to touch the hearts of those who experience her art,” she writes on her official website.

We’ve seen Milligan celebrate many different species through her art, but birds are definitely her favorites. She has a knack for bringing their vibrant colors to life in breathtaking detail, creating perfect replicas of their real-life contra parts.
