If you still haven’t been introduced to the magical world of woodburning, Court O’Reilly is inviting you to step right in. She’s the mastermind behind the brand Hippie North, and she’s using her special talent for pyrography to transform wood slabs into magical works of art.
O’Reilly fell in love with woodburning in 2016, and she spent six full hours working on her first project without noticing a minute had passed. She was instantly hooked after seeing her first finished art piece and found the creative process incredibly relaxing and peaceful.
She uses sustainably sourced kiln-dried wood slabs as a canvas, and she transformed into more than 400 artworks over the years. She cuts and sands the wood before using it as a canvas for burning, and you can witness her creative process in her viral videos on Instagram.
O’Reilly finds inspiration in everything from popular culture to architecture, but animal portraits are definitely her specialty.
“Nature is her biggest inspiration. She is always including earthy elements into her original woodburning pieces. She is recently experimenting with burning textures into her artwork by deeply carving and etching the realistic textures of nature into her work,” she writes on her official website.
