Did You Know That Elephants Eat Leftover Christmas Trees?

While we can put candy canes and gingerbread decorations on Christmas trees as a treat, the trees alone can be a treat for some. The elephants in the Berlin Zoo have been eating leftover Christmas trees for years.

They love playing with them first until they become hungry; after all, animals enjoy novelty and special occasions just like humans.

Before you plan to donate your Christmas tree to the local zoo next winter, you should know that elephants don’t actually eat the trees that have been used for the holiday. They get fresh, moist trees that local vendors didn’t sell.
