Dog-Loving Graphic Designer Becomes a Full-Time Pet Portrait Artist

Patricia Otero has always loved dogs and that has navigated her career move from being a graphic designer to a professional dog portrait artist.

Otero was born in Barcelona. She got a degree in graphic design in 2011 and worked in a couple of advertising companies. During that time, all she really wanted to do was paint. The first portrait she made was of her friend’s father’s dog, as a Christmas present. There was no turning back – she couldn’t stop painting dogs after that.

Siri’s finished piece ❤️ Siri is a dog who had a very sad beginning in life but a very happy ending (read below). Commission for a lady in the UK ??. This painting I finished a month ago it’s now been given as a surprise gift. 30x40cm 17×12” pastel pencils. —— A little bit about Siri from my client’s words ?? “His name is Siri and he is 5 years old. He is a rescue from Cyprus and he was severely beaten and abused and underweight. When he first came to us he was so nervous and wouldn’t come near us or look us in the eye! Finally after a year he is now learning to play with other dogs and toys and he has so much love to give! He definitely has a cheeky side coming through and he and Bentley (my other dog) are inseparable. The first thing everyone says when they meet him is he has such beautiful and emotive eyes.”

This is Buster the pug. ? Commission for a lovely client in the USA ??. Final photo of this 12×17” portrait. Would love to hear your thoughts!! —— Unfortunately Buster is no longer with his family, he passed away last December. But I wanted to share a bit about him from my client’s words ? “Buster was born on June 28th 2010. I brought him home when he was 8 weeks old and my husband and I were blessed to have had such a great boy. He was the best dog and addition to our little family. He loved going for walks, sunbathing, treats, lots of naps and of course me, my husband and my 2 daughters. He was overall just a happy boy. He had his favorite places to nap at different times of the day all where the sun would shine inside the house ?”
