Chameleons are truly fascinating creatures and can make pretty great pets—and Don Nguyen seems to agree. He’s the mastermind behind Highlighter Chameleons, who’s using the power of social media to showcase the beauty of this amazing lizard species.
Nguyen is an attorney from Bay Area, California whose fascination with chameleons inspired him to start a pretty unusual side hustle. He became a successful chameleon breeder and went on to take care of hundreds of chameleons before helping them find loving homes.
Chameleons are instantly eye-catching due to their distinct range of colors and color-shifting abilities, and many reptile lovers keep them as pets. There are around 200 unique species out there, but Nguyen certainly has his favorite and mostly specializes in panther chameleons.
He has a soft spot for Ambanja, the vibrant blue subspecies, along with Nosy Be and Ambilobe, the subspecies native to the island of Madagascar. After raising them, he sells them on the official Highligh`ter Chameleons website, in addition to attending countless reptile shows around his home state and beyond.
Nguyen is also committed to helping other chameleon owners take proper care of their pets, and he prepared a detailed “Cham Care” guide filled with useful tips about building proper enclosure, picking the right lighting, feeding your chameleons, and beyond.
