Donkey Who Went Missing 5 Years Ago Gets Adopted by Herd of Wild Elks

A story of a missing donkey named Diesel, who got lost five years ago during a hike, recently received a happy end. Diesel is living his best life in the wild alongside a herd of elks.

Back in 2019,  Terrie and Dave Drewry took Diesel on a hike near their home in Sacramento, California. A relaxing activity soon turned into a nightmare as Diesel got scared by something he saw and ran away.

Terrie and Dave spent months looking for the donkey, but their search proved fruitless, and they assumed the worst happened. But, as it turns out, Diesel just found some new friends and decided he is keener on life in the wild.

Back in March, athlete Max Fennell shared an interesting video on his Instagram that showed a donkey running around with a herd of wild elks.

“I bumped into a herd of elk that have adopted a donkey. I can’t get over seeing it, and I’m amazed that the donkey looks happy and healthy! “Fennell wrote in the caption of the video.

The footage found its way to Terrie and Dave, who instantly recognized the donkey in the video as actually Diesel. Furthermore, he was spotted just a few miles from the place he disappeared.

The family is relieved that Diesel is alive and well. They have no plans to reunite with him as he looks like he is thriving in his new surroundings.

“Finally, we know he’s good. He’s living his best life. He’s happy. He’s healthy, and it was just a relief,” Terrie told media outlet KOVR.
