Donna Smyth is the embroidery artist behind Stitch in Twine, and most of her recent creations see her exploring one common subject. After looking for inspiration everywhere around her, Smyth decided to focus on capturing the extraordinary beauty of insects through embroidery art.
Smyth decided to give embroidery a shot after a trip to a local craft gift shop three decades ago, and she’s been obsessed with it ever since.
“There is nothing on Earth quite as beautiful as embroidery to an embroiderer. The thrill of stitching and finishing a piece brings happiness to the embroiderer. It is a gift to us that we get joy from stitching that others sometimes do not understand. But we know and understand this gift and cherish it,” she wrote on her Etsy page.
Smyth can stitch together pretty much anything, but insects are definitely her favorite subject. She’s a huge fan of moths, butterflies, and dragonflies, and her hoops are a love letter to these extraordinary creatures.
In addition to sharing her art with almost 40,000 followers on Instagram, Smyth is also running a successful Etsy page. She’s using this platform to sell digital PDF patterns, helping other people who love embroidery and insects as much as she does kick-start their creative journey.
