She immediately fell in love with Ellie Mae and she says there was something special between them. But once the project ended, the school sent Ellie Mae to auction.

“I went to auction to bid on her, but unfortunately we were outbidden,” Sullivan told The Dodo. “That was soul-crushing. And makes me upset thinking about it still. Luckily enough we were able to connect with the farmer. I was able to visit Ellie Mae as often as I wanted to. So I went, basically, every weekend for three years.”

Eventually, Ellie Mae got pregnant and baby Zee was born. That’s when the girl wanted to give them a home, so she started her own animal sanctuary, but the owner didn’t agree. However, Sullivan didn’t let it go, so eventually, he agreed.

“Getting to hug a cow is an incredible feeling. It is really amazing. It doesn’t quite feel real still. And I’m not sure it ever will,” she added.
