Farmer Invents Adorable Muffs to Protect Newborn Calves From Winter

Most people that have seen the recent viral photo of a baby calf sporting adorable pink muffs probably thought that was some well-thought joke by some comedian farmer. But, as it turns out, muffs for calves are a real thing and they even have a purpose as they protect the animals from getting frostbites.

After her family lost their barn in a fire, farm owner Holly Poad was forced to find a solution to keep baby calves warm in the harsh Wisconsin weather. Following several days of tinkering, Holly and her aunt Kim Ewers figured they could sport the calves with some ear muffs and jackets.

Ewers, who has an embroidery business, came up with an intricate muff design that both protected the calves while not interfering with their everyday routine. This was the birth of “Moo Muffs.”

The muffs ended up being quite helpful for the calves, so the two women decided to offer a couple of them for sale. The initial reaction from their fellow farmers was so positive, that they decided to develop their business even further.

Now “Moo Muffs” has found its place in stores specializing in livestock equipment, while they are also offered online.
