Fear of Dogs is Real – but Treatable

Yes, many people believe that dogs are man’s best friend, but not everybody agrees with this. Some are afraid of dogs and the fright can be so big that a mere sight of a dog can cause a panic attack.

Cynophobia is a real thing. It can be caused by different factors, the biggest one usually being a negative experience with dogs. Cultural influences like religion can sometimes play a role as well. Sometimes, though, it’s simply about the chemical imbalance that makes a person prone to anxiety disorders, according to Kasey Brown, a therapist at the Georgia Center for OCD and Anxiety.

Brown argues that anxiety is curable, and so is the fear of dogs. The key is to work slowly, step-by-step until a person is able to live a normal life that’s not dictated by their fear.
