Every day brings new miracles to Tracie Hale’s farm in Oklahoma, and one of the latest involves her hen, Harriet. She lost all her eggs after making a reckless decision to lay them in a dog house, but still got to be a mother figure to ten puppies born on the farm.
Tracie Hale is often sharing fun stories from her life on a farm via a TikTok page Windridge Farm Tales, and one of her latest involves her hen, Harriet. Shortly after she started nesting in a dog house, Hale’s dog Lucy also got pregnant, and they ended up sharing the same space.

Harriet would only leave her eggs to get some water and food, and one of her short breaks turned tragic. Lucy devoured Harriet’s eggs while she was away, but this didn’t cause any animosity between the two.
“I wasn’t mad or upset at all because Lucy has always eaten the chicken eggs. When Harriet got off of the nest, Lucy just did what any other livestock guardian dog would do,” Hale told People.
Once Lucy gave birth to the infant pack of 10 Great Pyrenees, Harriet was the first to help her out. She spends every waking moment with the puppies, like she’s their second mother, and even has a habit of sitting on them as if they were her own eggs.
