Birds served as inspiration for many artists over the years, and it’s not necessary to paint them extremely realistically to do them justice. Holly Storlie’s colorful paintings are a case in point, and they do a great job of capturing the vibrant nature of these feathered creatures.
Storlie is a painter based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who pursued her passion for art at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. This was where she got her bachelor’s degree before heading to Philadelphia to get her Master’s at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Her academic pursuits continued at the Delaware College of Art and Design, where she works as a Fine Arts professor.
Storlie went on quite a journey on her quest to develop her personal style, which is now characterized by a splash of vibrant colors. Her oil paintings mostly feature still-life objects and animals, and a single glance at her Instagram page will reveal her biggest obsession.
Storlie attracted 100,000 followers with her colorful bird portraits, which mostly see her focusing on their faces instead of painting their full bodies. Owls and parrots are among her favorite subjects, but we’ve seen her capture the beauty of countless other bird species through her magnificent oil portraits.
