Human-Sized Jellyfish Spotted in British Waters

Biologist and wildlife presenter Lizzie Daly had the surprise of her life this past week as she encountered a human-sized jellyfish during one of her diving sessions.

Daly was exploring the waters near the coast of Cornwall, England on Saturday as part of her Wild Ocean Week campaign which serves as a celebration of the marine world and also raises funds for the Marine Conservation Society. This was when she spotted a Barrel jellyfish, which is the largest species of jellyfish that can be found in British waters.

And while Barrel Jellyfish are usually 3.2 feet long and weigh up to 55 lbs, the one Daly saw was the size of a full-grown human.

“What an unforgettable experience,” – said Daly about the experience. “I know barrel jellyfish get really big in size, but I have never seen anything like it before!”

Fortunately for all marine lovers, Daly was in the company of videographer Dan Abbott, who managed to capture her encounter with this impressive sea creature on camera. Check out the clip below.
