Kelly Louise Judd’s art is always inspired by flora and fauna, and she enjoys celebrating all creatures, big and small through her body of work. Insects often take center stage in her intricate illustrations, which will inspire you to see these curious creatures in a brand-new light.
Judd goes by Swan Bones on social media and her body of work celebrates the immense beauty of the natural world. She’s mostly inspired by flora, fauna, and folklore, and she enjoys adding a Victorian touch to her art because she’s endlessly fascinated by this era.
Judd resides in the Midwest with her cats, dogs, and a flock of chickens, and spends most of her free time in the garden, where her inspiration blooms stronger than ever.
“My color palettes are always a reflection of what is happening in my garden throughout every season. I spend so much time puttering in the garden that any art I’m working on tends to become an emotional response to what is growing, blooming, or fading outside,” she told Diode Editions.
Judd’s whimsical illustrations often center on insects, showing them tangling with wines, flowers, and leaves. Butterflies are one of her favorite subjects, but we’ve also seen her celebrate cicadas, dragonflies, and moths through her intricate creations.
