Crochet artists are often inspired by flora and fauna, and Kate Hensinger seems to be a huge fan of the marine world. Cable and Canvas founder used her crochet art to pay homage to many ocean dwellers, but her crochet octopus became the biggest sensation on Instagram.
Hensinger is a popular crochet artist with almost 50,000 Instagram followers under her belt. She became serious about crafting after knitting and doing macrame helped her overcome postpartum depression, and her Instagram page started flourishing once she decided to give crochet a shot.
We’ve seen Hensinger work on many different projects, but if we had to pick one that caught everyone’s eye, it would be Anchor the Octopus. She put countless hours of hard work to bring his long tentacles to life, using the pattern shared by another popular fiber artist on Instagram, Chantel of Humble Child.
Anchor the Octopus attracted over 22 million views and became a true viral sensation on Instagram thanks to his lifelike appearance and the amount of effort it went into crocheting this adorable plushie. Hensinger’s love for marine animals goes beyond Anchor, and we’ve also seen her crochet smaller octopus plushies, along with whales, jellyfish, and beyond.
