Insects are misunderstood and underappreciated creatures, but one public librarian decided to give them all the attention they deserve. Pete is the founder of Arthropod Archives, and he’s using his platform to share his knowledge about insects with the world.
Pete is a public librarian who has been passionate about nature and the science behind it for as long as he can remember. He always loved asking big questions and figuring out how things work, and he’s using Arthropod Archives to encourage other people to do the same.
He describes himself as a citizen scientist and wildlife advocate, who found his true calling after connecting with a community of fellow insect lovers.
“About two years ago I took the plunge into keeping insects as a hobby… I fell deep into a great community of entomologists, science communicators, naturalists and others in the bug-keeping hobby. I’ve learned so much in that time and the whole experience has made my life better,” he wrote in his About Me document.
Pete’s posts often present people who are obsessed with insects in a humorous way, but finding viral fame isn’t the main purpose of his Instagram. He started his page to spread information about arthropods and promote positivity through education.
