Man Spots Two “Snakes” Peeking Behind a Wall, Discovers They Are Something Else Completely

Arkansas store owner Vikash Chauhan was recently standing outside his shop when he noticed something menacing. At first glance, it seemed like two snakes were peaking behind a wall, looking to jump on passersby.

However, once Chauhan got closer and looked behind the wall, he noticed that those were not snakes. It was actually a rare insect known as a cecropia moth with a wing pattern that looks like the head of a snake.

Chauhan captured the sighting on camera, and it is immediately clear why he believed there were two snakes behind the ball. Until the camera actually shows a moth resting on a wall, there is no way you would think those wings are anything else but a reptile.

The video quickly spread on social media, getting more than 137K likes, and Instagram users shared that they were fooled by the moth’s wings as well.

“Thought it was a two headed snake coming out a hole in the wall,” one person wrote.

Other users pointed out that the pattern on the moth’s wings most likely serves as a defense mechanism. Predators get fooled by the pattern as we did and tend to leave these colorful insects alone.
