Insects possess a unique beauty that most people don’t fully appreciate, but Maria Mayrhofer isn’t one of those people. She’s an Austrian artist who uses nature as her main source of inspiration, and many of her watercolor paintings are a love letter to insects.
Mayrhofer is based in Austria, and she always enjoyed looking for ways to express herself creatively. She found her calling once she discovered watercolor painting, and she’s now using her skills to capture nature’s endless beauty.
“I taught myself to draw and paint and am passionate about nature and its beautiful creations. I am especially in love with insects like butterflies, moths, and dragonflies so I try to catch their magic in my pictures using primarily watercolor and archival ink,” she explains on her official website.
In addition to looking truly spectacular, Mayrhofer’s paintings capture the unique characteristic of each insect to the last detail. Her social media captions are quite educational, and they’ll teach you more about the insects in question.
From moths and butterflies to honey bees and ladybirds, we’ve seen Maria Mayrhofer paint a wide variety of different insects over the years. When taking pictures, she always surrounds her paintings with dried flowers, to enhance their beauty and add to their natural feel.
