Meet Leona Lee, The Possum That Lives In Her Owners Shirt

Leona Lee is a possum who was left with just her siblings after her mom died. The possum family got hit by a car while they were in their mother’s pouch. All the siblings were healthy, except for Leona, who had an injury on her left hand.

Leona’s current owner, Brenda, got a phone call that there was a littler of baby possums that needed help.

“Leona and her littermates where so small that I did really turn into Mom,” Brenda told The Dodo. “I had to learn how to tube-feed because they weren’t suckling on their own. And every three or three hours they were getting tube-fed.”

Leona’s injury needed three weeks to heel, however, just before their release into the wild, she got injured again. Leona was super attached to Brenda, so she decided not to release the possum.

“Possum rehabbers, if we have a baby that we know that we know we won’t be able to release them, that baby is gonna live in your shirt,” she added. “And now it has turned it into her safe space and her favorite napping place. It’s not just my shirt, it’s strangers ‘shirts, too. She is like a people person. She really, really likes to cuddle. She goes to work with me. Everybody loves her.”
