A Quiet Place: Day One introduced us to several amazing new characters, but none as purrrfect as Frodo the Cat. Two adorable felines Nico and Schnitzel were in charge of portraying Lupita Nyong’o’s pet, and they made her fall head over heels with cats.
Nyong’o’s character Sam is trying to survive the invasion of extraterrestrial creatures with her cat Frodo by her side. Paramount executives wanted Frodo to be CGI-generated but director Michael Sarnoski had different ideas, and Nico and Schnitzel eventually hopped on board.
Nyong’o wasn’t too crazy about the news due to her paralyzing fear of cats, and she even tried to convince Sarnoski to change his mind. He wouldn’t budge so she went to exposure therapy to cats before the filming started, in an attempt to overcome her fear.
She eventually fell in love with Nico and Schnitzel, and later decided to adopt a cat of her own.
“By the time I was finishing this film, I was crying… I had grown so attached to them. They’re so cute. And they were so talented. And so when the time came, when I was going through a hard moment, I was like, ‘you know what, I’m gonna get myself a cat,’” she told Refinery 29.
