Mira Petrova’s Illustrations Will Make You Think About Your Waste

Mira Petrova is a Bulgarian artist who cares about nature, animals, and the environment. She wishes for a zero-waste-life, however, in some cases she finds it very hard. So, together with her boyfriend, she decided to think more about the waste they are producing.

She created a comic strip called Waste Aware Animals where the main characters are based on her and her husband.

“We wanted to give people a fun and positive way to learn and share about the zero waste philosophy, free of shame and guilt. And spread the message that we can all be part of the change or inspire it in others, sometimes even with the smallest actions,” the artist wrote on Bored Panda.

She publishes her bilingual illustrations on Instagram where she has attracted more than 1,500 followers.

We really enjoyed browsing through her Instagram page and we believe that you will enjoy it, too. Follow her for future updates. Let us hope she raises awareness with her artwork.

A few days before Christmas I keep thinking about all the wrapping paper that's going to get thrown away as soon as the presents get opened. To reduce this waste you can replace single use wrapping paper with reusable fabric. Have you heard of Furoshiki? A traditional part of the Japanese way of life, Furoshiki are squares of fabric used for carrying and storing things. You can use them to wrap any object of any size, by selecting one of the three most traditional sizes:small (50 cm.), medium (70 cm.) or large (100 cm.). You can either buy them or even better, make them from recycled fabric you already have. I'll share a link with a tutorial that I found on how to tie them in different ways. It's actually surprisingly easy, unlike what my comics suggests. 😄 That way we are also giving two presents in one – the object itself and the beautiful piece of fabric it came in, that's going to keep it's journey from one person to another, spreading joy and happiness. . . #wasteawareanimals #zerowaste #environmentallyfriendly #environmentalart #ecofriendly #sustainability #sustainable #reuse #refuse#furoshiki

We see the label "biodegradable" or "compostable" and we think "I'm making a better choice". But did you know ( I didn't until recently ) that biodegradable items are designed to be decomposed only with the specific process of composting which does not occur in landfills. So once again the greenest option is the one that’s used over and over again. Reusable coffee mugs, water bottles and real dishware and utensils are environmentally better than their disposable options, even if they could be recycled or composted. Just think of all the energy and resources that go into producing something that only gets used once!🍂🍁🌿 _________________________________________ Виждаме етикета „биоразградим“ или „компостируем“ и си мислим „правя по-добър избор“. . . #wasteawareanimals #zerowaste #environmentallyfriendly #environmentalart #ecofriendly #plasticfree #plasticfreeliving #plasticfreelife #planetorplastic #nomoreplastic #stopplastic #sustainability #sustainable #reuse #shoping #lesspackaging #plasticfreeshopping #illustration #comic #comics #comicstrip #webcomic #instacomics #biodegradable#compostable#compost #безотпадъци #нулевотпадък #БезПластмаса

✨ ———————————————— ✨On the road to sustainability there are many different steps we can take. One of them is to replace toothpaste in a tube, since it comes in a type of packaging that is impossible to be recycled. Now thanks to Zero Waste Bulgaria I have more than one alternative and I wanted to share some options with you. The first one is a homemade toothpaste, the recipe for which I'm sharing here. I was pleasantly surprised how fast and easy it is to prepare, literally takes a few minutes. But if your lifestyle is too busy for this kind of home experiments, there are toothpaste tablets as well! They are easy to find in the shops and come in much less harmful for the environment glass jar. ✨ . . . #wasteawareanimals #zerowaste #environmentallyfriendly #environmentalart #ecofriendly #plasticfree #plasticfreeliving #plasticfreelife #planetorplastic #nomoreplastic #stopplastic #sustainability #sustainable #reuse #shoping #lesspackaging #plasticfreeshopping #illustration #comic #comics #comicstrip #webcomic #instacomics #toothpaste #homemadetoothpaste #homemadecosmetics #zerowastebulgaria #безотпадъци #нулевотпадък #БезПластмаса
