Animal lovers finally got the matchmaking app they always
wanted. GetPet is a new Tinder-inspired app that aims to connect dogs with
their future owners and it might revolutionize the way of adopting pets.
After a person downloads the app, they are presented with
photos of the dogs available for adoption alongside key information about them.
If they like the dog, the person can swipe right and immediately start the
process of adoption. If not, they can swipe left and continue with their
search.
When someone initiates the adoption process, they are
provided with essential info and tips on pet care as well as a mentor who will
help them to form a bond with their new animal friend. The idea of helping and
supporting new pet owners is one of the key elements of the app, as it aims to
ensure that all adopted dogs are in good hands.
GetPet was designed by a team of volunteers from Lithuania,
and managed to reach over 5000 people since being released mid-January. If the
concept turns out to be successful, the team might consider adding cats and
other animals to the mix.
“For a long time while taking care of homeless animals
and helping animal shelters, I could only dream about a modern tool to solve
most relevant animal welfare issues in Lithuania. Now I am happy, that it
unexpectedly came true, all because of our enthusiastic team, which voluntarily
gathered their skills and power to create GetPet project and make it
happen.” – said Zaiceva Stalmakova, one of the team members.
