We’ve seen many reptile lovers find viral fame on social media, but there’s something that sets Ryan Martinez apart. He’s an actual zookeeper who spent years learning everything there is to know about reptiles, and he’s now using Instagram to share his knowledge with the world.
Martinez goes by Zookeeper Ryan on Instagram, and he’s using his platform to bridge the gap between humans and nature. He’s an animal specialist trained to take care of all sorts of different animals, but reptiles definitely hold a special place in his heart.
Unlike many reptile keepers who found viral fame on social media, Martinez isn’t self-taught, and he actually has an academic background in this field. He studied zoology and animal biology at the Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He went on to work as educator and even had a brief stint as a venomous reptile keeper before becoming an animal care specialist at the Zoo Miami.
Martinez’s Instagram page sees him showcasing some of the most interesting reptiles from inside the zoo and spreading fun information about these creators. He’s also using his platform to spread awareness about properly dealing with some of the more dangerous species, especially crocodiles and alligators living in large numbers in his home state of Florida.
