North Carolina’s BeWild Rescue has had its fair share of hard cases since being founded in 2018 as an organization that takes care of displaced reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. But nursing sick chameleon Johannes back to health must have been one of their biggest challenges yet.
Johannes arrived at BeWild in rough condition after being spotted by a “good Samaritan.” Upon his arrival, the chameleon was covered in wounds and had little of his signature bright green color.

Luckily for Johannes, he arrived at the right place, as the BeWild staff immediately got to work to get him back on his feet. Their team did all the necessary tests, gave him shots, and placed him in a cozy hospital enclosure. As the days went by, the chameleon started feeling better and made a big breakthrough when he started indulging in a buffet of crickets and roaches the staff gave him. At the same time, his color started coming back.

It took some time for Johannes to fully recover his strength, but as the weeks went by, he started looking more and more confident in himself. His color was back, and he was unrecognizable compared to the first time he arrived at BeWild.
