Dogs are usually happy and energetic balls of fur that enjoy the world to its fullest. But occasionally, they will get upset or anxious. This is usually caused by some fear or an outside event that makes them uneasy. Luckily, dog owners can do a lot to calm them down and make all their worries go away. Check out the best ways to do it.

Cuddle Them

One of the best ways to show your dog that everything will be okay is to cuddle them. Hugging the dog and petting them will alleviate the stress and take their mind off of things that made them upset.

Take Them to a Safe and Quiet Place

Often, outside events and noises are the main reason for anxiety in dogs. Counter this by taking them to a safe and quiet place where they feel protected.

Play With Them

Sometimes, all dogs need is to get rid of the built-up energy. A game of fetch or a simple walk outdoors will help solve this issue and make them less prone to distress.

Put Some Classical Music On

Classical music is known to have a calming effect on humans, and it does the same trick with dogs. Put on some soothing tunes, and they will soon get distracted by them and forget that they were ever upset.

Most dogs don’t love baths. They hate getting wet, and being still just isn’t their cup of tea. However, if you follow some simple tips, your four-legged friend will be much more open to bathing time.

Brush Their Fur

Your first step should be brushing your dog’s fur. This will make them more relaxed, shorten the bathing time, and avoid any hair knots that could cause them pain when you wash them.

Shower Them With Affection and Treats

Show your dog that you don’t mean any harm with bathing. It helps to shower them with affection beforehand and lots of pets. Also, give them a treat from time to time to keep them calm and teach them that they will be rewarded for their good behavior.

Avoid Washing Their Face

Dogs will react badly to having their face wet. Instead of washing it, use a damp cloth or wet wipes to wipe it clean and make sure no soap reaches their eyes.

Get the Water Temperature Right

Before starting with the bathing time, check the water temperature and make sure it is just right. You should aim for lukewarm water, which is considered the most comfortable for dogs while doing the cleaning job well.

Rinse Well

Get all the dog shampoo out of their fur and skin. If you don’t rinse it well, the excess shampoo will irritate their skin, and they will remember it the next time you want to give them a bath.

Plane travel doesn’t have to be a challenge when flying with your dog. Just follow these tips below, and flying will be stress-free for both you and your four-legged friend.

Do Your Research

Different airlines have different policies when it comes to bringing your dog on a plane. Also, some countries require additional paperwork before allowing pets to cross the border. Do your research in order to avoid being denied boarding or entering your travel destination.

Get Your Dog Accustomed to a Carrier

If your dog isn’t a service animal, it will likely be required to travel in a carrier. Since dogs don’t like carriers, make sure to get your dog accustomed to a carrier well before the flight. You can take some short trips in a car and place them in a carrier to make them feel more accepting of the idea.

Book a Non-Stop Flight

You may need to pay a bit more for a non-stop flight, but your dog will thank you. Layovers will increase the time your dog spends in a carrier, which will add to their stress.

Provide Entertainment for Your Dog

Your dog will need something to do while in a carrier. Place their favorite toys in the carrier so they don’t become restless and can entertain themselves.

Avoid Feeding Your Dog Ahead of the Flight

Feed your dog several hours before flight, and then avoid feeding them until you land. Traveling with a full stomach might cause discomfort for the dog and result in unwanted consequences.

So you want to treat your four-legged friend with a relaxing grooming session but are unsure where to take him? In that case, follow these tips for choosing the best dog groomer to ensure your pet gets the time of their life.

Ask Around for Recommendations

Contact your fellow dog lovers and see if they can recommend a dog groomer they have experience with. The recommendation can be particularly helpful if their pupper is the same breed as yours. You can also ask your veterinarian or staff at the local pet center.

Do an Online Research

Another important step is to do an online research. Go through reviews and check the dog groomer’s social media profiles. This will give you a good idea of how they treat their customers and how successful they are in their profession.

Make a Visit

After you narrow down your choices, make sure to pay a visit to the dog groomer. Tour the place, ask about their practice, and see if they have the necessary qualifications and certificates. You can also take your dog with you to see how he feels about the place.

Go With Your Guts

Finally, don’t be afraid to rely on your guts when making the final decision. Take everything into consideration, but pick one that you feel will be the best choice for your beloved pet.

Collars are a great way to ensure our dogs are safe and don’t wander off when outside. But when your pupper is inside the house, they really don’t need them. As a matter of fact, as a recent viral video TikTok shows, they are better off without them.

TikTok user @finneasandmilo shared a video on social media that shows the dangers of collars inside the house. They didn’t take their dog’s collar immediately after returning from a walk, and the canine ended up getting it stuck between the sofa cushions.

The poop doggo was unable to move or get free, but luckily, its owner was there to save them.

@finneasandmilo also attached a report about how an upward of 26,000 collar related accidents take place each year.

“We came in from a walk and he was brushing on the side of the sofa (he wanted his fleece off) and his tag got caught in a matter of seconds. This wasn’t causing him any distress or danger, but a reminder that dogs can get caught on anything in seconds. Such a simple thing can save your dogs life, “@finneasandmilo shared in the caption of the video.

Check out the video below and keep this warning in mind next time you have your dog running around the house with a collar on.

Losing your cat is a terrible feeling. But you shouldn’t blame yourself if that ever happens. Felines are unpredictable and love freedom, so it doesn’t mean they don’t love you; it only means they want some adventure. Instead, you should follow these tips to find them.

Look Around Your House

Your house is the first place you should search through. Your cat might have just found a spot they like and decided to stay there for a while. Also, they might have got stuck in a narrow space while looking to explore. Be thorough and call them occasionally to see if they will “reply.”

Search the Neighborhood

If they are not inside the house, then there is a good chance that they are somewhere around the neighborhood. They probably chased some prey or went to hang out with other cats. Go out on the street, check out nearby parks, and keep your eyes on the trees as they might have climbed one and now can’t come down.

Spread the Word

In case nothing worked, share the news about your missing cat on social media. Don’t just use your own social media profile; reach out to local Facebook groups and ask them to share a post about your cat. You can also try the old-school technique of posters.

Reach Out to Animal Shelters

Finally, reach out to animal shelters. Check out if someone might have brought your cat in. You can also give them a detailed description so they can contact you if it shows up.

If you feel like your dog is lonely, you may consider getting it a buddy. Deciding to get a second dog is not a small decision and there are things you should think about before you give in to the cuteness of a new puppy.

Your First Dog

Most of the time, your original pet will enjoy the new company. However, this may not happen as quickly as you hope for, and you can usually tell by watching it react to other animals. If you have a chance, have another dog over at your home before you make a decision because that will help you see the reaction of your existing dog to a new pet on its territory.

Preparation

Having a dog can get expensive, but you already know that. Are you really ready to pay double vet bills, grooming fees, dog walking fees, etc.? Put everything on paper before you make a final decision.

Introduce Them

If you’re sure about bringing a new dog into your home, it’s a good idea to first have your dogs meet in a neutral place. You can even bring your dog to the shelter and let it choose a friendly dog for you to take home!

If you’ve decided to take a pet home from the shelter, you probably never thought about the possibility of your new pet not liking you. We tend to think that all adopted pets will show gratitude and love straight away, but that’s often not the case. What can you do if it turns out your pet isn’t as friendly as you hoped they would be?

In many cases, it’s only natural that a newly adopted animal doesn’t trust you from the moment you take it home. They may have had negative experiences with people before. But if your new pet shows signs of aggression toward you, you shouldn’t just wait for them to go away.

As Dr. Rachel Malamed, a veterinary behavior specialist at BehaviorDogtor told Martha Stewart, it’s possible that the animal is reacting to the way you behave. “The use of confrontational techniques such as physical or verbal reprimands have been shown to increase aggressive behavior and diminish trust,” Dr. Malamed said. She explains that punishment is not an effective method as it “only intensifies the pet’s fear and the aggression usually worsens.”

It can take a lot of time and effort to get to know your new animal and become friends with them, so don’t rush and avoid frustration if things aren’t going according to plan.

While pet daycares are a great idea, you may have a pet that refuses to stay away from home while you’re not there. This situation requires an in-home pet sitter and it can be difficult to find one that you will love. We have a few tips to help you pick the best.

  1. Ask around. Referrals are always a great way to find someone reliable.
  2. Ask the candidates about training and qualifications. It’s important that they are able to take care of your pet properly, whether it’s a small or big dog, older cat, or several dogs.
  3. Make sure you’ll have good communication with the sitter while you’re away.
  4. Do a test run for a day or two before committing.

Living in a household with several pets can be amazing, but how do you know when you’re ready to add a new furry friend? Before you do it, you should consider if you can afford all the accompanying costs without sacrificing something important. Consider pet food, grooming, veterinary cost, and everything else your new pet may need.

It’s also important to be realistic about whether your current pet(s) will accept the new company. It can take a lot of time and effort to help your pets love each other so make sure you can do that.

Getting another pet is a different experience when you have only one pet at home compared to if you already have several pets. A single pet is used to getting all your attention and may take longer to accept a new family member.

Collars are a great way to ensure our dogs are safe and don’t wander off when outside. But when your pupper is inside the house, they really don’t need them. As a matter of fact, as a recent viral video TikTok shows, they are better off without them.
